Autism Ontario’s Response to the 2023 Review of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017

The Child, Youth, and Family Services Act (CYFSA, or the Act) is the primary provincial legislation governing child, youth, and family services that are provided, delivered, funded, or licensed through the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS). This includes services such as child welfare, adoption services, youth justice, and children’s developmental services, as well as services for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children and youth.

Given the high representation and disproportionate involvement of children with disabilities in child welfare investigations and the MCCSS’ emphasis on early identification and intervention services, Autism Ontario assembled a specialized team to review the 2023 CYFSA call for feedback and provide recommendations on behalf of the autistic community.
