At this time, there is no consistent government policy regarding the need for supports and services for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), nor agreement of which ministry/ministries should be involved in funding those services. Most, if not all individuals with autism, require some care, supervision or support through their entire lives; many require a great deal.
With this discussion document, Autism Ontario will illustrate why the recommendations put forth matter to all Ontarians.
The struggles that are encountered for those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in learning appropriate social skills can be easily observed by parents and supporting professionals. With this report, Autism Ontario sought to gain a better understanding of the variety of social skills programs being delivered across the province of Ontario and parent perceptions of these programs, and to determine what was considered best practice so that we could inform those responsible for developing social skills programs in Ontario.
