Adult Supports in Niagara Region

Due to COVID 19 all face to face programs have been cancelled to further notice. Our Chapter offers an Adult Social Club. This group is for adults 18+ who do not require 1:1 support. Monthly events are organized with the goal of having adults with ASD meet fellow members of their community and have fun taking part in events tailored to their interests. F.A.S.T (Fun, Active, Social Team!) Club: For children and youth with ASD (Ages 5-12) Participants will be divided into teams, and each night will have a “weekly goal” to meet (i.e. waiting my turn, sharing with friends, saying thank you, etc). They will participate in different stations (fine motor focus, gross motor focus, and sensory & exploration) which will seek to offer many opportunities for participants to interact with one another socially, and build their peer relationships. The AutPlay Therapy® program at NCDC is a behavioural and play based therapy model to working with children and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder.

It integrates models of Play Therapy, Behavioural Therapy, as well as other models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Modeling, Social Skills Training, and Parent Coaching in order to assist children and families in gaining skills and abilities to effectively function within their home, school, and community environments.

In particular, it is a structured session that involves interventions that focus on: emotional regulation, social functioning, and relationship connection. Other target treatment areas may be related to: anxiety, impulsivity, focus/attention, language, and sensory-processing.

Remote area service, Mobile dentistry. For those who can't reach a dentist or difficult for them to go outside. Basic service include examination, cleaning, filling. Extractions required dental xrays in case the individual can't get an x-ray or previous x-rays from previous dentist will do our best to assess the situation and give additional recommendations. Some traveling expenses might be needed depending on the distance which is within 2-3 hours from Oshawa. Can provide the service for group of people or single individual at private location or nursing homes. Basic help might be needed from PSW or another individual as having a DA to go to remote areas is difficult .
