Autism Ontario offers two funding opportunities for children and youth during the March and Summer breaks. The direct goals of this program are to:
- Provide families with respite
- Support community and recreational participation of children with ASD
- Provide high quality programming opportunities
- Help provide continuity of care during vacation periods defined by the school calendar
Most families report benefiting from Autism Ontario’s March Break Fund and One-to-One Summer Support Worker Fund. In particular, parents often report that their children gain skills that are critical to their future, especially social, communication, and daily living skills. Many families report that the funding enables their children to become more involved in their communities and in recreational activities. Benefits of participation extend to the family as a whole. Parents often note a reduction in stress and improved family functioning. Parents also benefit from the respite provided by the program, the financial support, and reduced worry regarding the safety of their child.
March Break Reimbursement Fund
The March Break Reimbursement Fund is available to Ontario families of children or youth with ASD who retain the services of a one-to-one support worker OR who have paid for their child to attend a March break camp or program, but not both.
Maximum reimbursements of $350 per child or youth (up to 18th birthday) will be made to subsidize the cost hiring a one-to-one support worker or attending a camp or program during the March break.
A minimum of 1,007 families, from across Ontario, are expected to receive these reimbursements. Reimbursements will be provided based on a random selection made from all eligible applications.
Reimbursements will be made to subsidize services purchased between March 11 and March 15, 2019.
Applicants must apply between December 17, 2018 and January 25, 2019.
