FOR IMEDIATE RELEASE – Toronto, Ontario – March 11, 2021 - Autism Ontario extends its congratulations to Dr. Stelios Georgiades upon his appointment as the inaugural Chair in Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders at McMaster Children’s Hospital.

In this newly created position, Dr. Georgiades will continue his research into biological heterogeneity in neurodevelopmental disorders, focusing on autism. Along with Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at McMaster University, the Canadian Autism Spectrum Disorder Alliance, Autism Speaks Canada, and the Sinneave Family Foundation, Autism Ontario joins as a key supporter in advancing the aims of the Chair. It is our hope that the emerging research will support our mission of creating a supportive and inclusive Ontario for people with autism and their families.

“Autism Ontario is thrilled to be a collaborator in supporting the appointment of Dr. Stelios Georgiades as McMaster University's Chair in Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders,” said Autism Ontario’s Executive Director, Margaret Spoelstra. “His combined work as a scientist, professor, and public policy advocate makes him the right person for this position. We look forward to participating in greater collaborations at the local, provincial, and national level with Dr. Georgiades in this new leadership role. The autism research bar has been raised with this appointment and we offer our heartiest congratulations to Dr. Georgiades and McMaster University.”
