Today is World Autism Awareness Day!

Even though COVID-19 has changed how we’re celebrating, we are still celebrating! All over the province, (but now online!) we’re rallying together to show our commitment to increasing understanding, acceptance, and celebration of people on the autism spectrum.

Here’s how you can celebrate with us!
First, join us at 2pm EDT for a virtual Raise the Flag ceremony!

When we raise the flag for autism, we unite families, schools, communities, government, and professionals in recognizing World Autism Awareness Day and build a more supportive and inclusive Ontario for people on the autism spectrum.

Second, share your story with us!

We’re encouraging autistic individuals, families, and community members and educators who work with and are invested in the lives of people on the spectrum to share your stories of acceptance, celebration, and inclusion, as well as how we can further support you.

Third, raise a flag at home!

While our colouring contest is only open to grades JK-12, we encourage everyone to print and decorate your own flag and display it! Take a picture of it and post it online! You can put it on your window, on your front door or just pose with it!

Whatever you do, remember to tag @AutismONT and #RaisetheFlagforAutism so we can share your celebration!

Finally, we have a favour to ask: if you’re in a place where you are comfortable doing so, please consider making a $20 donation to Autism Ontario. These are especially challenging times, and our staff and volunteers are working even harder to ease the stress of people on the autism spectrum and provide accessible and meaningful resources and support them through this time of crisis.
