This one-day, in-person event invites families who have already established a microboard for their family member with a disability or would like to know more about the benefits of a microboard to connect, learn, and build a community.

Since 2018, Microboards Ontario (MBO) has provided education, training, advocacy, and support to people with developmental disabilities, their families, and communities across Ontario who are exploring a Microboard as a sustainable way of planning for their family member’s future.

A microboard is where friends and family of a person with a developmental disability come together to create a non-profit organization. That non-profit has one purpose: to support a person in achieving their goals and living a full life in the community.

If you’re supporting a family member with a disability, one of the most important steps you can take to help secure their future is to create a will and estate plan.

Dr. Meng-Chuan Lai is a psychiatrist and senior scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Dr. Lai’s work focuses on neurobiological, cognitive, socio-cultural, and health service research and clinical services to improve the mental health and well-being of neurodivergent individuals across sexes and genders.

About Employment Works!:

Employment Works! is a CAMH Human Resources recruitment and retention initiative to recruit people with lived experience of mental illness, including addictions, into vacant CAMH positions.

Too often, autistic individuals have never been taught the necessary skills to be successful in sexual and romantic relationships by the time they become adults.

This session, which features a woman on the autism spectrum sharing her firsthand perspective, will dispel some of the myths and misconceptions surrounding autism and dating, discuss the potential for using ABA to teach dating skills and the challenges involved with teaching these skills, and offer strategies and resources to help parents and clinicians begin conversations about relationships and sexuality with their family members and clients.

This session is presented in partnership with AIDE Canada.
