Provincial - Journey to Adulthood - Steps on the Journey

“The Journey to Adulthood - Steps on the Journey” is an opportunity for parents / caregivers of youth 12 – 21 years of age to discuss the steps in supporting their child during the transition from youth to adult. It is open to caregivers of youth ages 12- 21.  

Each session will include a brief presentation as well as the opportunity for caregivers to ask questions, learn about resources, and share information with each other. Together we will explore and discuss what the steps on the journey to adulthood might look like.   

Caregivers may attend some, or all sessions. Registration is limited. When you register, you must indicate which sessions you wish to attend. 

 

1 - Oct. 20 2021 - Steps on the Checklist:  We will discuss items on the Autism Ontario Key Activities Checklist. We will discuss the transition to adult services and funding as well as deadlines to apply.

2 - Oct. 27 2021 - Steps to Building Skills: We will discuss opportunities for your child to build skills at home, at school, and in the community that will be foundational for their future as an adult.

3 - Nov. 3, 2021 - Steps to Choosing a Path: We will discuss the various options your child might have once secondary school is completed including how identifying their interests and skills might help in choosing their future path.

4 - Nov. 10, 2021 - Steps to Employment: We will discuss tips to help your child identify, secure, and retain employment.

5- Nov. 17, 2021 - Steps for Advocacy: We will discuss the role of parent as advocate in school and in community. We will also look at the importance of, and tips for, growing self-advocacy skills in your child.

6 - Nov. 24, 2021 - Steps To Talk More About: This session will feature additional information and resources on key topics raised during the previous sessions.
