Child waiting outside a school

A new school year comes with mixed feelings of excitement, anxiety, and for some, fear. While school plays an important role in your child’s development, it can also provide challenges for the child, the parent/caregiver, and the school team. It’s important to help create a working relationship with your school to ensure a successful school year for everyone involved.

We are pleased to offer this informative workshop with Educational Advocate Ed Mahony. During this 2-hour interactive, virtual workshop we will discuss how you as a parent/caregiver can work with your school team to create a successful year ahead. Ed has decades of experience working with both school boards and families and will offer insight into how to create a positive working relationship between families and schools.

This workshop will include some helpful resources and tips for parents/caregivers, as well as the opportunity to ask questions. We will go over such topics as:

  • Understanding school placement options
  • The Identification, Placement, and Review Committee (IPRC)
  • Individualized Education Plans (IEP)
  • Communication with the school
  • Navigating online schooling
  • When and how to ask for help
