In this webinar, Michelle Garcia Winner will introduce the 4-step Social Competency Model to show how our brain processes and creates responses to socially based information, as well as how to use this model to foster development of students’/children’s social competencies. We will also discuss why anxiety is so prevalent in those with social learning differences, as well as how the development of social competencies is important to lessening anxiety. Michelle will provide practical ideas for all attendees to better understand and teach social competencies.  The Social Thinking Methodology has been adopted into many mainstream classrooms.

Michelle Garcia Winner, MA, CCC-SLP is a speech language pathologist and the founder of Social Thinking®, a methodology which specializes in developing treatment frameworks and practical strategies for individuals with social communication challenges. She continues to be clinically active, has authored numerous books/articles, and speaks routinely in the US and abroad. Her work challenges professionals and parents to understand the critical relationship between social competencies and academic, vocational and community success. She was featured as a Social Thinking Therapist and Speech/Language Pathologist in the 2016 Sundance Premiere Documentary; Life, Animated. She was honored with a Congressional Special Recognition Award in 2008 and a lectureship award in 2019 by the Society of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatricians.
