Details of the Yoga Fun and learning you and your child will enjoy

Through yoga, breath and movement, the children learn how to recognize the 5 main emotions and then learn the self-regulation tools that help with dealing with those emotions in a constructive manner. I encourage the parents to be present with each lesson to be able to carry the teaching through the day to the kids to help embed the learning.

JOY: The kids learn how to recognize their happy islands through looking at Riley’s happy Islands that she creates through her life (the movie). They then are given the opportunity to create their own Happy Islands in a scripted meditation talking them through the process. They are further encouraged to visit their Happy Islands whenever they feel out of joy.

FEAR: We go through Riley’s first day at a new school and how she deals with Fear by checking in with herself regularly to keep in touch with what is going on inside. We explore being as strong as a Mountain on the inside and what she can do to listen to and overcome her fear on her first day.

SADNESS: We learn how to acknowledge Sadness and that she will keep on knocking at our door until she is heard. The kids learn the one way of moving oneself out of sadness is through Gratitude where we climb onto the Gratitude train! Affirmations come into play now in working through flipping perspective.

ANGER: Big Emotion! The kids learn how to recognize anger and what it does to our bodies. And there are a few anger releases learned in this lesson through breath and movement. A big one is learning to let one’s anger settle through the imagery of a Glitter Jar.

DISGUST: The kids learn how to change perception of disgust through the analogy of broccoli and it being a tree! Again, seeing things from a different perspective and learning respect for others’ differences or ways.

I hope you have a lot of fun with your kids on the mat!
