The Journey to Adulthood Discussion Workshop (for parents and caregivers of autistic youth ages 16-20).
A series of six virtual discussions, one per week, featuring topics relevant to the transition from youth to adulthood. Each session includes discussion and resources around specific topics on the journey to adulthood. Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30PM. April 30 to June 4. IMPORTANT: This session is limited to parents and caregivers of autistic youth (ages 16-20) who are currently in secondary school. Note that there will be a separate Workshop series starting at a later date for parents of youth ages 12 - 15.
The Journey to Adulthood Discussion Workshop open to parents and caregivers province-wide. The workshop will be presented via a virtual platform (Zoom). Participants will need access to the internet and a laptop/tablet/cell phone with video and speaker capacity. Please note this workshop is for parents/ caregivers, and not for youth, support workers, or other professionals.
Topics will include:
- Funding (as of age 18),
- Consent, capacity, and legal concerns,
- Community including Post-secondary options, Employment, and more
- Advocacy, and
- Mental Health.
