Autism Ontario’s message goes on the road!
After months of planning and organizing, our rolling advertisement is now on the road.
This endeavour was funded by contributions from the following Chapters:
Durham Region, London, Sarnia-Lambton, Toronto, Waterloo, Wellington, Windsor, Niagara Region, Peterborough, Peel Region, Upper Canada, York Region, and Cambridge.
Special thank you to Manon Lapensee for bringing this project to us, and to the Durham Region Chapter Leadership Council for taking the lead on it. And the biggest thank you of all goes to Lavigne Trucking – who has donated this space to us for the life of the trailer (10 to 15 years!!). What an amazing opportunity to get our message out – from Montreal to Windsor and everywhere in between.

NEW! Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP)
On December 13th, the creation of a new savings option made news. The Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) is modelled after the Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) that provides government grant money that matches contributions to the plan. The RDSP is set to become reality if the federal budget is passed.
To read more about this new option for parents of individuals with disabilities, check out Provincial News on our website.
Autism Intervention Program Waitlist Survey
Autism Ontario is hosting a survey for parents on our website, regarding the waiting list for IBI in Ontario. Here are the FAQs:
What is the Autism Intervention Program Waitlist Survey?
The Ministry of Children and Youth Services has retained Mercer Delta, an independent consulting firm to conduct the survey of families waiting for intensive behavioural intervention services. The survey results will be used to inform current policy development and program design activities.
What is the role of the Autism Ontario in this survey?
Autism Ontario hosts the survey on its website for two weeks beginning December 13, 2006. The link on the Autism Ontario website is directly linked to the independent consulting firm that is analyzing and summarizing the information. Autism Ontario does not have access to and will not retain any of the survey information. After December 29, 2006 the survey will not be accessible.
How is the survey going to be conducted?
The survey is to be posted on Autism Ontario website for two weeks starting on December 13, 2006. An independent firm has been contracted to manage the data collection and analysis. Every family on the waitlist of a regional program provider will be notified and provided with the instructions to access the survey. Families can also complete the survey manually and mail responses directly to the consulting firm no later than the end of the day on December 29, 2006 if they do not have access to internet.
Who are eligible to participate in the survey?
The survey can be completed only by families currently on the waiting list of one of the nine regional Autism Intervention Program providers and in receipt of a letter of notification containing an access password and individual code.
Is the information provided to be kept confidential?
Participants remain anonymous. No personal information is requested and all information provided is handled in confidence. Completion of the survey constitutes consent to provide non-identifying information to the Ministry of Children and Youth services for the purpose of policy development and program design activities.
Who can provide help in completing the survey?
If families have any questions about the survey or need help in completing the survey, please contact the person listed in the letter to them from their regional program provider.
