What are the changes to Autism Ontario’s 2009 One-to-One Summer Support Worker Reimbursement Fund?

We changed the program’s name to “One-to-One Summer Support Worker Reimbursement Fund – 2009” (Previously know as the Summer Camp Support Fund). We changed the name to help applicants understand that reimbursements are made to parents for payment of one-to-one workers to accompany an Ontario child with ASD to a summer camp program, but not to pay for the summer camp program.

More children will be served in 2009: It is expected that a minimum of 500 families will receive the reimbursements of up to $600 per child with ASD.- If you applied for funds in 2007 or 2008 you do not need to re-submit confirmation of an ASD diagnosis.

New pre-registration process: In response to concerns about the previous year’s program, Autism Ontario is now accepting applications for pre-registration so that no matter when a child is attending a summer camp program between July and September, families will have an equal opportunity to pre-register for the minimum number of reimbursements.

How does the pre-registration process work? Submit your completed 2009 application and proof of diagnosis, and Autism Ontario will assign you a pre-registration number to eligible applicants via ground mail. A minimum of 500 completed and eligible applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.- Once you have paid the worker in full, submit the receipt(s) quoting your pre-registration number for reimbursement. Reimbursement will occur 10 business days after all required documents have been received from pre-registered families.

Families having received a pre-registration confirmation number must submit their 1-1 worker’s receipt no later than September 30, 2009 in order to receive reimbursement After that date any remaining funds may be released to other eligible applicants with receipts.

What are examples of summer programs that qualify for 1-1 worker support reimbursement?
The
2009 One-to-One Summer Support Worker Reimbursement Fund is intended to help parents in funding support workers so that their children and youth can attend a community program during the summer. This is typically described as a summer camp or summer program. Key words that describe eligible programs include: camp, community, recreational, social learning, summer time.

Can I fax in the documents for quicker service?

You can fax in the application and diagnosis, however you must mail in an original receipt from your one-to-one worker. Reimbursement will occur once all three items (proof of diagnosis, original receipts and signed application) are received.

My child does not require a one-to-one worker, can I use the funds to pay for the camp/program?No. Funds can only be used for one-to-one support workers.

Do I have to pay the one-to-one worker up-front?
Yes. Please ensure that you request an original receipt from your paid one-to-one workerValid receipts contain the full name and address of the one-to-one worker, the amount paid, the date of receipt, and the worker’s signature.

What happens if a pre-registered and eligible applicant does not submit the required one-to-one support worker receipt by the September 30 deadline?
The funds will then be re-allocated to the next eligible family.

What is the age range?
Up to age 18.

What if my one-to-one support worker fee is included in the camp fee?
Please ensure that your child’s camp issues you a receipt that lists the camp fee and one-to-one support worker fees separately.

Do I need to be a member of Autism Ontario to access this funding?
