Come join Autism Ontario Peel at Kinark Outdoor Center for camping fun with your entire family!

From July 25 to July 28, 2017 Autism Ontario Peel has reserved the Kinark Outdoor Center for our families. Accommodations will be in cabins and all meals and programming is provided. Come out and have a great time swimming, canoeing, hiking, archery, high ropes, campfires and other great camp activities. Kinark staff will program some great activities for our individuals with ASD.

The cost for the three night and four day family camp is ONLY $350 per family. This includes all meals and activities as well as accommodation! Space is limited.

PLEASE NOTE: The actual cost for the program is $750. This opportunity is being subsidized generously by Autism Ontario Peel Chapter for Peel Chapter Members Only. You must have a valid Peel membership number. If you are not a Peel member, you can apply for membership here

If you choose not to become a member of the Peel Chapter and still want to go, you can still indicate your interest. If there are remaining spots open, then we will open the remaining spots up to non-members. Please note that non-members will be charged the full cost of the program at $750.

Spaces will be allocated to Peel Chapter Members first. Selection of acceptance will be determined by a lottery draw on June 9, 2017.

*Cabins can accommodate up to 5 people.  There is 1 cabin than can accommodate 6 people and 2 others that can accommodate up to 8 people. As such, we cannot guarantee these cabins.  Please indicate your interest in a larger cabin upon registering and request for how many people.  Please note, should you be chosen and we cannot accommodate the larger cabin, you can chose to only bring 5 people to keep your reservation or chose to withdraw at no cost to you.

  • Family name
  • How many family members will be attending
  • Name and age of family member with an ASD
  • Contact information mailing address, phone number, email address
  • How you will be paying
  • Interest in larger cabin and how many people attending

Once selected, you will be contacted by email. There will be a questionnaire to fill out attached as well as an informational booklet about the camp. We will also provide a social story (written by one of our CLC) that you can use with your family member should you wish to. You will have until June 14th to respond with a confirmation of intent to go.

You will then need to secure payment. The fee of $350 will need to be paid by June 23rd (the latest) in full by cheque or credit card to guarantee your spot. This fee is not refundable.

We do require a credit card number on file.  

Please note: If we do not receive your payment in time, your spot will be offered to the person on the top of the waitlist. No exceptions.

Please visit the Kinark Outdoor Center website at http://www.koc.on.ca/ to see what the facilities look like and what they offer. Kinark offers gluten free, casein free dietary options and are used to serving vegetarian diets too. You can even bring your own food and they will house it in their refrigerator for you if diet is a concern. Kinark will try and accommodate any reasonable request.

Autism Ontario Peel Chapter Family Swimming in Mississauga 

LOCATION: River Grove Community Centre, 5800 River Grove Avenue, Mississauga, ON, L5M 4R8

COST: Free

This event is funded by Autism Ontario's Potential Programme, in partnership with Ontario's Ministry of Children & Youth Services and the Peel Chapter.

Families are invited to come out for an enjoyable family swim at the River Grove Community Centre Centre in Mississauga! The pool will be used exclusively for Autism Ontario Peel for the hour! This event is open to all families with Autism Spectrum Disorder children, youth and adults. Come join us!

Supervision of children/youth is the sole responsibility of parents/guardians and caregivers; childcare will not be provided.  Caregivers must remain present.

iConnext will meet once per month, on the second Thursday of the month.  What are your favorite activities?  Bowling, movies, mini golf, dinner out, games nights, pizza dinners?  Group members will determine all future events & activities.

Paulette supports individuals affected with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.  Following the principles of Applied Behavioural Analysis, she creates and delivers training to teachers and parents on a variety of topics: ABA principles, visuals, communications, social skills, self-regulation and many more.  The focus of Paulette's work has involved coaching social skills in the natural environment and stress/anxiety reduction through breath and movement practices.  Paulette is certified in Triple P Stepping Stones, Breathe Body Mind Practice and Facing Your Fears.

Autism Ontario Peel ACTTs: (Peel Autism Community Together through Sports) Sports Readiness Program ACTIVE Start

Using the recreation model developed by the Special Olympics, Peel ACTTs will feature the ACTIVE START - BEGINNER program for individuals with ASD.

ACTIVE START (from 6-7pm) is a beginner program for individuals with ASD with increased difficulties and who generally need TA support at school. Participants will work on following group instruction, develop basic movement skills and follow a routine with visual supports. The goal is for the participant to have the physical skills and fitness ability to participate in physical activities and to have fun! 

***Suggested age - 4 to 12 years old*** This is a recommended age only.  If your child is slightly older and you think they suit this program, please register.

*This program requires caregivers to support their child and participate in the full duration of the each session for all 9 weeks.

The program is overseen by 2 facilitators, who are trained IBI therapists, as well as Autism Ontario Volunteers.

DATES: Monday from 6-7 pm

LOCATION: Conestoga Public School, 300 Conestoga Dr., Brampton, ON L6Z 3M3

Peel ACTTs will return in late Sept/early Oct.  Regsitration to come out closer to the date.

Autism Ontario Peel ACTTs: (Peel Autism Community Together through Sports) Sports Readiness Program FUNdamentals 

Using the recreation model developed by the Special Olympics, Peel ACTTs will feature the FUNdamentals - ADVANCED program for individuals with ASD.

FUNdamentals (from 7-8pm) is an advanced program for children with ASD who are able to follow group instructions independently and generally do not require TA support at school. The participant learns physical literacy; the more fundamental motor skills necessary for activities and sports.  The intention is for individuals to participate in school and organized physical activities with confidence. The participants will also learn to interact with one another (team environment) and have fun! 

***Suggested age -  9 to 15 years old ***  This is a recommended age only.  If your child is slightly older and you think they suit this program, please register.

* This program requires caregivers to remain present for the entire 10 weeks of the event and participate when needed.

The program is overseen by 2 facilitators, who are trained IBI therapists, as well as Autism Ontario Volunteers.

This is not a graded class session. Although some kids may be offered a chance to grade for a belt at some point, it may take several sessions to do so. There is no expectation of advancement of belt for any session.
