Seeking Stories and Examples of Educational Success:
Is your child/student on the autism spectrum and do you have a story or example of excellence in his or her learning that you would be willing to share with Autism Matters readers? It could be about a skilled, knowledgeable or wise teacher, educational assistant, peer, principal, consultant, school bus driver, maintenance or administrative staff person who makes the school experience a positive one for your son or daughter.
It could be that you’ve always said, “I know my child can learn” and you can relay something that happened in school that helped people to see how able your child is. It could be about an entire program, an attitude, a teaching technique or example of collaboration that stands out in your mind. Maybe your daughter or son with ASD contributed to the school community in a way that opened the minds of adults to better understand how to teach her/him. Please send your submissions to marg@autismontario.com The deadline to receive the submissions is Friday, August 27, 2010. Photos with permission to reprint are welcome.
A selection of submissions will be included in the Fall 2010 Education issue of Autism Matters that will be distributed to every elementary and high school in Ontario. Please let us know if we may use your or your child’s name in our publication.

Every student has the right to a full and inclusive education. As the school year begins, we want to inspire greater academic possibilities, especially for students who have an intellectual disability.
Join education advocate, Marilyn Dolmage as she discusses what can be done to protect students rights, how to navigate the school system, and improve education for students of all abilities. Marilyn assists schools and families to work together to improve education. She communicates with a broad network of allies across Ontario, sharing information and inspiration about the law, research, provincial policies, effective education practices, career development and advocacy strategies. She has co-ordinated a variety of projects of The Ontario Coalition for Inclusive Education and its member associations since 1995.
