Autism for Ninjas - Training in behaviour management and strategies.

When: Saturday July 3rd and Sunday July 4th (participation in both days is required.)

Time: 9:30-4:30

Location: Richmond Hill, ON

Ed Mahony and Steve Darby are on the road again and coming to a space near you.

They will be delivering their new course Autism for Ninjas. .

Autism for Ninjas is the newest and greatest training program/presentation to come from the vast intellects and modest egos of Exceptional Needs Solutions. It has been highly praised and well received by Kings and scholars of many an imaginary place. If you have already experienced their previous programs “Rethinking Restraint”, “Approaches to Autism”, “Positive Behavior Strategies” or “Learning to build small hamster powered watercraft out of breakfast cereal” then you still need to come to Autism for Ninjas!

Autism for Ninjas teaches and informs caregivers how to interact with and promote positive change in the lives of people with Autism. It will provide you with a detailed introduction to the world of Autism and many of the components that encompass that world. Autism for Ninjas will give you real world strategies for changing behaviours while focusing on changing the environment of those you care for. Autism for Ninjas uses Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) as one of the core approaches and provides tried and practiced approaches that work in the real world.

Perhaps you have been lucky enough to have experienced Ed or Steve during one of their many College courses in Ontario. Well 70% of Autism for Ninjas will seem familiar (improved but familiar) the other 30% is all new and will be worth the two days.

Various versions of Autism for Ninjas have been taught to over 5000 people over the last 15 years throughout North America., to educators, community living staff, health professionals, Special Needs Caregivers and parents. Ed and Steve have a combined 50 years of Special Needs experience. Autism for Ninjas is perfectly suited to train anyone how to prevent and manage anxiety and aggression in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and a variety of other Special Needs. Ed and Steve are proven and highly regarded within the Special Needs community.

Autism for Ninjas is a light hearted, highly entertaining, informative and practical 2 day session that will provide you with thoughts and strategies that you can then apply in your role as a parent, caregiver or educator of anyone with exceptional needs. The program uses practice scenarios to help you understand and provides engaging anecdotes and stories throughout. You will learn you will laugh and you will want to come see them again.

This is unlike any Autism training course you have ever taken. This one will be fun!! You have to come!!

Fees: $5.00 per person for AutismONTARIO Members; $10 per person for Non Members

“What’s Love Got to Do with it” – A workshop on Friendship and Intimacy in Adolescents with Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism

Cancelled due to low registration

Saturday May 22nd, 9am to 4pm

Location TBA – Will be hosted in Richmond Hill or King City

Like their age-mates, adolescents with Asperger Syndrome or high functioning autism often yearn for best friends and girl/boyfriends. Many also experience sexual feelings as their brains and bodies mature. Yet these adolescents often lack the social knowledge and skills that are necessary for mature and safe relationships. Moreover, they seldom have the opportunity to share their concerns and questions with friends. This workshop will tackle questions such as:

  • How can we help the adolescent make the leap from acquaintanceship to “best friends forever”?
  • What about romance?
  • What do we need to teach about sexuality?
  • How can we ensure that the adolescent is safe in social situations?
  • What should we do when the adolescent’s behavior is interpreted as bullying, stalking, harassment, or worse?

This workshop is appropriate for parents, professionals, and paraprofessionals who have a working knowledge of autism spectrum disorders and common strategies for teaching social cognition and communication. It is not appropriate for adolescents themselves.

Dr. Teresa Bolick is a licensed psychologist with a special interest in neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism, Asperger Syndrome, and other autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Bolick graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Psychology. She holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in psychology from Emory University. Dr. Bolick provides evaluation and treatment to children, adolescents, and their families. She consults frequently to schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. She is an enthusiastic speaker, presenting workshops for parents, paraprofessionals, and professionals across the nation. Dr. Bolick is the author of Asperger Syndrome and Adolescence: Helping Preteens and Teens Get Ready for the Real World and Asperger Syndrome and Young Children: Building Skills for the Real World.

Fees: $5.00 per person for AutismONTARIO Members; $10 per person for Non Members
