Autism Ontario - York Region Chapter presents:
Autism Ontario Kids Camp (A-OK Camp) &
Autism Ontario Adult Summer program (AOA)
Registration is now open!!!
Providing a fun summer day program experience for children, young adults (ages 4 to 21) and adults 21+ with Autism Spectrum and Related Disorders in a caring, non-judgmental environment.
A-OK Camp and AOA Summer programs are co-operative programs coordinated by volunteers and the families of the participants.
Accredited by the Ontario Camps Association, our programs were developed by members of Autism Ontario - York Region Chapter to ensure that children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders(ASD) have quality summer program experiences in a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment. A-OK Camp has been in continuous operation for 22 years and AOA Summer program is now in its second pilot year.
Our programs ensure enjoyment from many community-based activities while providing plenty of natural teaching opportunities for social skills and life skills, such as:
• Swimming
• Visits to Restaurant
• Community Outings including weekly visits to GTA Attractions
• Cooking
• An overnight camping experience for all participants at the end of the summer
• Our senior campers participate in a work experience program for half a day each week
Date of Operation: July 5th to August 27th. Monday to Friday (except for Simcoe Day Holiday, Aug 2nd)
Hours are 9:00am drop off to 3:30 pm pick up, Monday to Friday.
Please note that the programs are held in a school in central York Region (Richmond Hill/Thornhill). We do not know which school until the school board confirms our application. We will post our location as soon as it is known.
Parents/Guardians are responsible for transporting children to and from camp as we do not provide busing or other transportation.
Our first priority for our qualified staff team is safety of participants in a fun filled environment. Our hiring committee interviews dozens of qualified candidates in order to put together the best team available. Our staff are typically from university or college backgrounds, qualified in first aid and CPR. Each staff member receives intense training about ASD and reviews the individual participant profiles of those they will work directly with. All staff has cleared an in-depth Police Records Check including screening for vulnerable persons. Staff ratios are one staff per every two campers, or a one-one ratio. Higher ratios (two staff to one camper) are not available.

Camp History York Region Chapter has made a profound difference in the lives of families living with autism. Our camp has been in continuous operation for over 20 years. Our parent volunteers initiated York Region Chapter's children's co-op summer program in 1987. Partnering with Kerry's Place Autism Services in 2006, our services expanded to specialize in suppporting youth with Asperger's Syndorme and High Functioning Autism. With a 3-year grant from The Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2009 we have been enabled to expand services to adults living with ASD.
