The Disability Amount Tax Credit - Tip
Some physicians may be reluctant to sign the Disability Tax Credit form, perhaps believing that signing it indicates some sort of prognosis for the individual. Take the time to explain how the credit will help defray some of those extra expenses, and outline a few of the costs, if necessary. Fill in as much of the form as you can, and be sure to give your physician copies of any other assessments or documents you might have, if he or she does not already have them. If your physician simply will not sign, maybe you need a more sympathetic physician...
SSAH - Tips
Some people are under the impression that you cannot use SSAH money for "professionals" (such as Speech and Language Pathologists) or for costs of over $12 per hour. In practice, both of these are allowed, as long as you stay within your funding maximum. It is worthwhile to get to know your local SSAH case officer, so that you can try for some sort of personal connection rather than being simply another file on the pile. If you have a case manager or social worker, that person can sometimes facilitate the SSAH process for you - in some cases, their views may be taken more seriously than your own.
The SSAH Coalition is an organization working to improve and expand SSAH funding. It costs very little to join. See their website for details. http://www.ssahcoalition.ca/
