| 2011 Ride, Glide N’ Stride for Autism |
On Sunday September 11, 2011, the Toronto Chapter held its Annual Ride, Glide ‘N Stride for Autism Event. The hot summer weather added to the festivities out at Thistletown Regional Centre. Approximately 200 people were in attendance, many new to the Toronto Chapter. Participants journeyed in a 5 km walk along the scenic route of Rowntree Mills Park. The adventuresome ones participated in a 20 km cycle. All to raise awareness and funds which enable the Toronto Chapter with their initiatives (movie days, annual Christmas party, parent support group and two pilot programs - Cook & Chat and Social Skills) for the families living with ASD in Toronto.
Kids of all ages were able to sit behind the wheel of a police cruiser or fire truck. Our lovable mascots, Bert and Ernie, Shrek and Smurf dropped by for some fun and pictures. As well, participants and their families enjoyed a free BBQ while gathered around to watch the magical talents of Magic Joe or got their faces painted.
