Chapter Leadership Council:

The Chapter Leadership Council (CLC) is the heart of each chapter of Autism Ontario, consisting of energetic people working to make a difference in their communities. The members of the CLC ensure that the business and general operations of the local chapter run smoothly. Being involved on the CLC in Thunder Bay assists the chapter in accomplishing its mission of providing information, support and friendship to families affected by autism spectrum disorders in the region. The CLC is also committed to furthering the mission and upholding the guiding principles of Autism Ontario. Being a CLC member is a tremendous way to contribute to the autism community.

MINIMUM REQUIRED POSITIONS ACCORDING TO BY-LAWS: OFFICERS (3)

The CLC of every chapter of Autism Ontario is required to have the following three (3) officer positions as stated in the By-laws (2008) of the organization. According to the By-laws, the officers may only hold their position for two consecutive one-year terms, although a special request for a third consecutive one-year term may be considered by the organization if it will facilitate the chapter's internal succession planning.

1. President (officer)

Ensures the goals of the chapter are being met.

Chairs the Chapter Leadership Council

Manages and motivates the Chapter Leadership Council

Prepares the agenda with Regional Director's support

Ex-officio on all chapter committees

Sets out with council the objectives for the year

Has cheque signing authority

Serves as liaison with Autism Ontario Provincial Office

Attends Presidents Council Meeting in Toronto or sends an alternate

2. Treasurer (officer)

Monitors the chapters finances ledgers for accuracy

Develops the draft budget with the President and Regional Director

Reviews financial statements before council meetings

Ex-officio member of all committees concerned with financial matters, including fundraising

Attends Chapter Leadership Council Meetings

3. Secretary (officer)

Reviews correspondence before meeting and provides council with brief overview or details when required

Takes notes from meetings and prepares minutes

Share/send minutes to Council and Regional Director

Attends Chapter Leadership Council Meetings

 

OTHER COUNCIL POSITIONS (VARY BY THE LOCAL CHAPTER)

4. Vice President

Ensures the goals of the chapter are being met

In absence of the President represents council at meetings

Attends Chapter Leadership Council Meetings

Position is considered a preparation for moving up to Chapter President in future

5. Newsletter Editor/ Website Coordinator

Assist with responsibilities of the council with members as necessary

Produce newsletter on monthly basis or as needed

Submit newsletter to head office contact for approval

Distribute newsletter

Ensure that chapter website is kept up to date.

Attends Chapter Leadership Council Meetings

6. Event Coordinator

Assist with responsibilities of the council with members as necessary

Plan details of fundraising and social events.

Recruit and supervise a team of event planning volunteers.

Research appropriate venues; arrange food & drinks; plan and purchase supplies for activities and gifts/prizes; wrap/package gifts; etc.

Attends Chapter Leadership Council Meetings

7. Fundraising Coordinator

Assist with responsibilities of the council with members as necessary

Plan, implement and evaluate fundraising opportunities.

Work in a team environment to effectively represent Autism Ontario Thunder Bay and its mission in the community.

8. Public Awareness & Media Coordinator

Assist with responsibilities of the council members as necessary

Identify, develop and execute strategic media plans in accordance with the goals and priorities of Autism Ontario — Thunder Bay.

Develop and leverage relationships with media contacts.

Maintain the chapter's database of media contacts.

Draft and edit news releases and promotional material in accordance with Autism Ontario's standards and procedures.

Work in a team environment to effectively represent Autism Ontario — Thunder Bay and its mission in the community.

Attends Chapter Leadership Council Meetings

9. Volunteer Coordinator

Assist with responsibilities of the council members as necessary

Recruit, screen and provide orientation to new volunteers.

Work in collaboration with Fundraising and Events Committees to staff events.

Assign volunteers based on organizational needs and on their interest, skills and qualifications.

Foster volunteer retention.

Maintain the volunteer database.

Work in a team environment to effectively represent Autism Ontario —Thunder Bay and its mission in the community.

Attends Chapter Leadership Council Meetings

10. Website Editor

Promote chapter events by creating banners linked to details as needed. Maintaining & updating website content as needed. Graphic design & understanding of html programming helpful.
