"Everybody Needs Respite.  Some Need Respite Care”

Respiteservices.com consists of agencies funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. We are collaborating to develop a more dynamic respite network for both children and adults who have a developmental disability in Sudbury and Manitoulin.  The website is hosted by the Children's Community Network.

The guiding principles of respiteservices.com are:

1. To develop a comprehensive respite system in Sudbury and Manitoulin.
2. To develop and maintain a coherent access process for families of children and adults who have a developmental disability requiring respite options.
3. To facilitate respite options for individuals that match their identified needs.
4. To work closely with service providers to advocate for appropriate service options to meet the needs identified.

Respite care is a family support service that provides temporary relief from the physical and emotional demands involved in caring for a family member who has a disability. Respite creates greater opportunities for all family members to live actively and participate in community activities and allows parents/guardians time for themselves.

CHAP Program

The CHAP program is an integral part of respiteservices.com.  The CHAP Program facilitates the connection of individuals with disabilities and CHAP workers through a Family Registry and Worker Database. We also provide information on community respite services and upcoming workshops/events. CHAP workers are hired by the family and are considered self-employed.

CHAP Workers promote active living for children and adults with developmental disabilities including autism and/or physical disabilities in their own home or in the community, while providing parent relief. Workers registered with the CHAP Program are connected with families looking for support and relief.

We are currently recruiting CHAP workers to be matched with families.  To register, simply visit the website and complete a worker application form.  You will also find information about the requirements needed to become an active worker with the program.  To obtain further information, please contact Stephanie Gilchrist, Respite Resource Coordinator at the Children’s Community Network at (705) 566-3416 ext. 2590 or email sgilchrist@ccnsudbury.on.ca
