Preparing for Studies After High School:  Representatives from the disability centres at Carleton University, University of Ottawa,and Algonquin College will give you information to help you prepare for College or University life. They will also demo some helpful technology and learning aids.

Helping you Find a Job:  So you want to find a job but don’t know where to start? Emmanuelle Bouliane and Julie Dewan, Employment Specialists, with Y’s Owl Maclure Co-operative Centre will present an overview of what employers are looking for, resumes and how to conduct a job search to help you find the right job for you.

Motivating Yourself and Setting Goals for Success:  Do you often have difficulty motivating yourself and setting goals for your success? In this presentation, Heather Ungar, will discuss how to self motivate and give you techniques for doing so. We will also give you ideas to help you when setting your individual goals to succeed in your life.

Time to Get Fit and Relax! (*for persons with ASD):  Marybette Riddell of Fit Vision will discuss how to keep a relaxation and fitness program simple. She will also lead a gentle fitness and relaxation session using play balls and lava stones. (bring a yoga mat or towel.) Two to three mini-sessions will be accommodated within the hour and a half time slot. (Sign up for your time slot at registration).

Helping Your Son or Daughter Cope with Life Changes (* for family members):  The teen and young adult years are times of great change. As teenagers with AS move into the world of work or post-secondary how can families help them prepare emotionally? Dr. Yolanda Korneluk, psychologist (Emerging Minds) helps us recognize signs of stress in this age group, and provides tips for helping our children cope during periods of change.

Healthy Relationships (* for persons with ASD):  Presented by Heather Ungar and Suzanne Ford from Y’s Owl Maclure Co-operative Centre, this workshop will be a fun, comfortable and interactive look on how to develop and maintain a healthy relationship in your life.

What to Do if Your Son or Daughter Refuses Care? All about Form 2 (* for family members):  What if an adult family member is a danger to self, to others, or is unable to manage selfcare but refuse to go to the hospital? Brenda Moore, Registered Nurse with the Canadian Mental Health Association, will explain how parents might use the “Form 2” to get a family member to the hospital and examined by a physician to determine if he or she will be admitted under psychiatric care.

Getting Along With the People You Work With:  There is more to a job then just getting your work done during your shift. Being able to socialize appropriately with your co-workers also plays a big part in job success.  Emmanuelle Bouliane and Julie Dewan, Employment Specialists, with Y’s Owl Maclure Co-operative Centre will give you some tips and tricks to help you navigate the social world of your workplace.

Time Management and Problem Solving Skills:  Do you feel overwhelmed when trying to get something finished? Not sure how to start solving some of the issues that come up in your life? Heather Ungar and Emmanuelle Bouliane, Employment Specialists, with Y’s Owl Maclure Co-operative Centre will be explaining the steps involved in planning your day to day life and how to figure out how to brainstorm through the steps of decision making.

How to Keep Safe – online and in general (* for persons with ASD):  Presented by the Rotary Club of West Ottawa, ABCs of Fraud Program, this workshop will cover a couple of common electronic scams and frauds you might have been or could be exposed to; such as scams done over email, phone and/or bank machines.

Coffee Talk – Resources in Ottawa:  Nancy Gibson and Heather Fawcett of Autism Ontario—Ottawa, will lead a discussion on services for older teens and adults with higher functioning ASD/AS in the community.

Panel – Adults with Asperger Syndrome Share Their Experiences:  Adults with Asperger Syndrome will share their experiences on the successes and challenges of living with ASD.
