March Break Activities 2010

Autism Ontario - Ottawa Chapter and the Realize Community Potential Program are jointly offering a number of March Break activities during the week of March 15 to 19, 2010.  Please see the following schedule of activities. 

We are asking each family to register for only two activities initially, to ensure availability for all families.  If there are additional spaces as of March 1, we will advise that families can register for more activities.

Monday, March 15, 2010 - National Gallery Visit

When:  Monday, March 15 @ 9:30am

Number of participants:  12 children (plus parents/caregivers)

Age range:  3 - 10

Where:  National Gallery of Canada, 380 Sussex Drive, Ottawa (Group Admission entrance)

Food:  no food included in this activity

A Sense of Art:  During this lively tour of the National Gallery of Canada, participants use their senses of touch, hearing, sight and smell to explore a variety of artworks.  Hands on activities including texture-touchboards encourage careful looking and engage the participants imagination.  The group will then go to the Great Hall or Garden Court to use the watercolour pencils to make a piece of art.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 - Mini Putt - Youth

When:  Tuesday, March 16 @ 5:00pm

Number of participants:  20 

Age range:  youth ages 13 to 18

Where:  Putting Edge Fun Centre, 5 Roydon Place, Unit 1, Nepean, ON 

Food included:  a variety of subs and veggies

Come enjoy a round of mini-putt golf with other ASD youth!  Each participant gets a round of mini-putt golf and a glow bracelet.  Food (subs and veggies) will be served following the golf.

Wednesday March 17, 2010 - Sleigh Rides & Pony Rides and BBQ

When:  Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00pm

Number of participants:  75

Age range:  open to families

Where:  Pinto Valley Ranch  http://www.pintovalley.com/                                            1969 Galetta Side Road, Fitzroy Harbour, ON 

Food included:  We'll have a bbq of hotdogs & hamburgers, hot chocolate and marshmallows.  Familes are welcome to bring their own food as well.

We invite ASD families for sleigh rides and pony rides at Pinto Valley Ranch, a family oriented ranch in Fitzroy Harbour.  There will also be a bbq with hotdogs & hamburgers as well as hot chocolate and marshmallows.  Come enjoy a couple of hours on the farm with other families.

Thursday, March 18, 2010 - IPLAY

When:  Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 10:00am to 2:00pm

Number of participants:  37

Age range:  8 to 18

Food included:  Food (lunch) will be included, a selection to be made upon registration

The Realize Community Potential Program and Autism Ontario - Ottawa Chapter invite children and youth with ASD (ages 8 to 18 years of age) to explore the world of computers in a fun and interactive environment.  All games that will be played during the day will feature cooperation and teamwork.  Children will be grouped together and taught how to play real-time strategy (RTS) games where teamwork and communication are paramount.  Each participant will have a variety of games to choose from, appropriate to their age and interestes.  Lunch is included, and a selection to be made on registration.
