Develop a Transiton Plan For Your Child
Transition refers to any change from one activity or environment to another. When we refer to transition planning in education, this means planning for the time when the student graduates from one school environment to another, ie. from preschool to kindergarten, or from elementary school to secondary, or when the student moves from one school to another.
The only government-mandated transition is from elementary school to secondary school; however, it is the opinion of many professionals that students with autism need a transition plan for most transitions: pre-school to school, change of school, change of class placement, etc. You cannot plan too much for students with autism. Remember - difficulty with transition is part of the student's exceptionality.
