  • February 2011 : In this issue, we take a look at new post-secondary school opportunities for adult learners with a developmental disability, promoting social inclusion through person-directed planning, and an alternative residential program.
  • December 2010: Lead Agencies For The Regional Contact Points, How The New Application Process Will Work, FAQs. The regional contact points will be up and running as of July 1, 2011. In the meantime, people will continue to use their current application processes in their community.
  • October 2010: New details regarding the funding allocated for developmental services in the 2010 Ontario Budget, including $48 million boost for people in urgent need.
  • August 2010: Quality Assurance Regulation is now in place.

  • July 2010: Ontario's new developmental services legislation; timeline, expanding upon which services & supports may be funded, expanded definition of developmental disability to consider adaptive functioning, not based strictly on IQ.

  • April 2010: Budget implications on developmental services

Legislation: Social Inclusion Act (Bill 77)The Ministry has taken a phased approach to proclamation, with certain sections of the Act coming into effect on July 1, 2010; January 1, 2011; and July 1, 2011.   Read more about the proclamation time line


Plain Language Guide to the Regulation on Quality Assurance Measures in the Developmental Sector
To improve services and supports for adults who have a developmental disabilty and their families, the government passed the Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act in 2008.

With this act comes Quality Assurance Measures. This helps developmental services agencies and Developmental Services Ontario provide high quality services and supports and meet set standards.They've recently released the Plain Languarge Guide of this measure.
