For the 4th year, Autism Ontario held its annual awareness and fundraising event on October 20th, this year at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts in downtown Toronto, featuring a line-up of funny and talented stand-up comedians. Evan Carter hosted our event and shared funny stories of living with his teenage and adult children, and the audience laughed, and some even cried, to funny stories told by seasoned comedians Martha Chavez, Rob Ross and AspieComie Michael McCreary! James Robertson, an employee at our title sponsor BMO and Chair, BMO Without Barriers, spoke eloquently of how workplace inclusion and diversity are a ‘win/win’ scenario for both employees and people with disabilities.
The evening raised over $25,000 for Autism Ontario – funds that will be used to support work done across Ontario to ensure each person with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) – whether a child, teenager, or adult- is given the appropriate services and supports through their lifetime. For over 40 years, Autism Ontario has been the largest collective voice of families across our province, representing their needs to those in power.
We are grateful to the generosity of all our sponsors and donations to our silent auctions. Without this support the evening would not be possible. Our volunteers play a huge part to ensure the event runs smoothly and all our guests have the best time possible. And mostly, we are thankful to all our guests, many who come out each year, to support this important event.
